About Time! Queening Exponentially

I know that I am about 2 weeks late... but I am working full time and pursuing a Master's so be patient! Miss USA 2016  is exponentially several degrees above awesome. Let us take a moment to discuss what makes her awesome.

1. She is Black- unapologetic. Most definitely oozing #BlackGirlMagic the definition of #BlackExcellence and that melanin is definitely popping. I wonder what color she wears> definitely not any shade that Neutorgena offers (No Shade) but not everyone has cool, orange or yellow undertones.... some of US have prominent red undertones!!! I digress.... Handclap to the makeup artist and creators out there that cater to ALL SHADES of BLACK.
2. Member of the US Army- Patriot and passionate about it. Some of my people are not the most supportive of African Americans fighting for a country that chose to enslave and continues to mentally enslave us as a people. My goodness! Cut the girl some slack- she has chosen to sacrifice her life for others- which is the ultimate sacrifice. Regardless of the past and present hurts of our people as a whole she has decided that at the end of the day... none of that matters... this country is her home and she will protect it.  Thank YOU!
3. Third but definitely not the least important. Ms. Barber is an ACTIVE Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, INC. Established in the midst of racial injustice of the PWI campus of Butler University on Nov. 12, 1922. Last created, best designed. She has what it takes to uphold our Motto of "Greater Service, Greater Progress" She better WORK!!

So let us talk about her in ALL her crowing glory. Queening at the HIGHEST level. Never have I been so proud of my sisters as I was that day. Breaking stereotypes, speaking eloquently while remaining true to herself. Let us stop and appreciate her in that GOLD dress. Royal Blue and True Gold... best colors in life!. RHOyalty indeed.

My soror made me happy that I chose to wait and then commit to join an organization that prided itself on educating our youth and continues to make new strides towards perfection. My sister made me even prouder to be an educated black woman and for the record WE (black women) are the most educated class here in the good old U.S of A just to throw that out there.. google it.
So be sure that the next time you want to coin us a class- as loud, ghetto, angry ignorant and lazy you think of her and the millions around the globe that work 3x as hard as any man or woman of different ethnicity to prove that we have always have been and will continue to be QUEENS- elegance, grace, class, brains, beauty and strength unmatched by any.

They killed Sandra Bland and from her ashes Deshauna Barber rose!

Single But Ready: Greater is Coming

So I am up doing some grass roots research into pursuing some passions of mine... hair and fashion.  While texting a guy who is interested in me. And it hit me. I am ready to date again! Finally. Lordt I thought I was going to be stuck in that negative stage forever! By the way the title of this post is inspired by a podcast that I listened to- that helped get me through entitled: Single But READY.. check it out it is eye opening. So if you read some of my post from the August/September period you will note the harping of the breakup and my efforts to rebound date. Well I never wrote about my perspective of trying to rebound date. Let us just say it was horrible. I truly do not recommend trying to rebound date, while being celibate and on the tail ends of a heartbreak... Nothing good comes from Nazareth right? HA.. ok. Basically as I sat here thinking back to that time period I was sooo negative. Negative Nancy welcome to the party. These guys were showing genuine interest in me an

The importance of boundaries

As I sit here in DFW international airport reading "Don't Settle For Safe" by Sarah Jakes Roberts, I am compelled to write on the importance of setting boundaries. Boundaries keep us safe. Safety is a primary foundational component of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Basically, we need boundaries at our core in order to survive. Relationships are one of the hardest areas of our lives to create and maintain boundaries. Why is this? Our need for acceptance tugs at our inner being to disregard the natural boundaries that our conscience created for us. Whatever it may be- friends, significant others, parents or siblings we want to be accepted. But at what cost do we pursue acceptance? As I have grown and matured in all things called life, I realized that I had created boundaries that were too loose as well as disregarded others all together. I had to realign myself to think in terms of boundaries when approaching any situation. Here are a few of the questions I asked myse
